King Kullen Supermarket, Queens, NY, 1930s
from $68.00
This print shows my watercolor and ink painting of an early King Kullen supermarket located in Queens, most likely on Jamaica Ave….. the cars date the image to the 1930s. The company itself was started in 1930, the Great Depression underway. The store was innovative right away…. low prices mattered, so King Kullen stores were massive and emphasized self service. Other present day standards they introduced long ago were shopping carts, automatic doors, and conveyor belts at registers. As the signs show, the store had a flair for marketing slogans early on.
Each giclee print is one of an edition of 100, printed on archival Hahnemuhle paper, signed and numbered by the artist.
